René Marion, P. Eng.
President & Chief Executive Officer
As an experienced senior executive in the mining sector, René Marion has over 25 years of experience in mining operations, operational management, and mine engineering – along with acquisition evaluations, feasibility studies, development, and mergers – throughout the world.
During his career, René held increasingly senior roles with Barrick Gold Corporation, including Vice President, Technical Services. In 2005, he was appointed as Barrick's Regional Vice President, Russia and Central Asia. Prior to joining AuRico, he had been seconded as Chief Operating Officer of Highland Gold Mining Ltd., a publicly traded strategic partner of Barrick Gold.
Mr. Marion holds a BSc Degree in Mining Engineering (1985) from Queens University.
Scott Perry, CPA
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Scott Perry has held increasingly senior financial positions in the mining industry over the past 13 years. Prior to joining AuRico, he was the Chief Financial Officer (seconded from Barrick Gold Corporation) for Highland Gold Mining Ltd., where he managed the company's financial reporting and compliance commitments, as well as the execution of its short- and long-term financial and operational strategies. Scott also led Highland Gold's business and corporate development initiatives. Before being seconded to Highland Gold, Scott held increasingly senior financial roles with Barrick in Australia, the United States, and in Russia, Central Asia where he was instrumental in establishing Barrick's presence in Russia and assembling a strong financial team.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Curtin University, a post-graduate diploma in applied finance and investment as well as a CPA designation.
Russell Tremayne
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Russell Tremayne brings over 35 years of solid mining experience to AuRico throughout the world, with the majority of that time spent in senior leadership roles. Most recently, he was Director of Operations with Highland Gold Mining Ltd. While at Highland, Russell was responsible for all operational activities, including production, development/stripping, milling operations, engineering and production planning, logistics and purchasing, quality control, utilities, and communications. Russell also had overall responsibility for budgets and management reporting.
Russell has a great deal of experience – and a lot of success – dealing with safety and environmental issues. His extensive experience and solutions-driven approach has greatly strengthened AuRico's operational team and provides the leadership required to enhance operational efficiencies that will position the Company to achieve its potential.
Russell holds an Accredited Bachelor of Science Mining degree.
Peter MacPhail, P. Eng.
Chief Operating Officer, Canada and Australia
Peter MacPhail joined the AuRico team through the Northgate transaction, where he was Chief Operating Officer for eight years. Peter holds over 25 years of solid operational experience in both Canada and Australia.
While at Northgate, Peter had overall operations management responsibility for the Kemess, Fosterville and Stawell mines, as well as the Young-Davidson mine project. Prior to joining Northgate, Peter held increasingly senior roles at Noranda, Teck, Homestake and Barrick.
Peter holds a BASc degree in Mineral Engineering (1985) from the University of Toronto, and is a licenced professional engineer in Ontario.
Chris Rockingham
Vice President, Exploration & Business Development
Chris Rockingham brings over 30 years of extensive exploration experience, focused on precious and base-metal deposits in various geological, geographic and cultural settings in North and South America.
Chris held the position of Vice President of Exploration and Business Development with Northgate Minerals for eight years prior to its amalgamation with AuRico Gold. In this role he identified Young-Davidson as a site with considerable exploration potential, negotiated the terms of the acquisition and assembled the team that developed the project into one of the largest underground gold reserves in Canada. Chris also played a key role in building community support for the development of the mine with the negotiation and implementation of the Impact Benefits Agreement with the affected First Nations.
Chris has an MSc degree in geology from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA (with distinction) from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
Chris Bostwick, BSc
Senior Vice President, Technical Services
Chris Bostwick is AuRico's Senior Vice President, Technical Services. He brings over 23 years of experience in the global mining industry, 19 of which were spent with Barrick Gold Corporation in various roles. Chris also has extensive experience in operations, engineering, maintenance, strategic planning, and project evaluation and development gained in North and South America, Africa, and Russia.
Prior to joining AuRico, Chris had been seconded from Barrick to Highland Gold Mining Ltd, where he led the Capital Projects and Technical Services groups for Highland's three development projects and one operating mine in Russia. Prior to that, he served as Barrick's Director of Evaluations and Capital Projects, working in the corporate development and technical services groups on mergers, acquisitions, and feasibility studies. Chris also spent nine years at Barrick's flagship Goldstrike operation in Nevada.
Chris has a BSc Degree in Mining Engineering from Queens University.
Matthew J. Howorth, LLB
Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary
Matthew Howorth has been practicing law for 12 years, and has extensive experience in the mining industry. Matthew joined AuRico through the Northgate acquisition, where he had served as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since 2008. Prior to that time, he practiced corporate and commercial law in the Toronto offices of a national law firm. As the company’s chief legal officer, Matthew plays a key role in AuRico’s business transactions, financings, commercial arrangements, regulatory compliance initiatives and corporate governance practices.
Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of New Brunswick. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2000, and is a Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Chris Richter
Vice President, Corporate Development
Charlene Milner, CA
Vice President, Finance
Charlene Milner joined the Company in January 2008 as the Director of Financial Reporting, and was appointed Vice President, Finance in October 2011. Ms. Milner is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, and the operations of the company-wide finance group.
Prior to joining AuRico, Charlene worked for eight years at Grant Thornton LLP, where she obtained her Chartered Accountant designation. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.
